What Really Are We Buying?

It seems to be becoming more and more common that celebs are putting their name on the labels of products. The beauty industry is full of celeb brands. It seems pretty clear why they’re doing this don’t you think?

Is it because they truly believe what they’re putting their name on is of excellent quality and it’s something they’re really proud of? We very much doubt it! Our guess is that it’s an easy way to top-up their bank balance.

For us, as founders of a skincare brand, we are true to ourselves and to our customers. We truly believe in what we’re selling. We know our ingredients are ethically sourced, that they’re of the highest quality and where our products are handmade. We’re proud of what we’ve created and why.

Here’s an interesting example of something we saw online this week, that made headline news!!

A new celeb promoted skincare brand, selling various products including a highly fragranced 300ml children’s shampoo in a supermarket for £3.

So let’s think about who needs to make money out of each bottle that’s sold

  • The celeb with the multi £ deal obviously

  • The supermarket

  • Those manufacturing and bottling the ingredients

  • Those providing the packaging

The list goes on but here’s the reality…..

After all these people make lots of money, what are consumers really buying? What’s it worth? Is it value for money? The answer to us is very, very clear and pretty numbing. Never mind the ingredients inside the bottles (whatever they are!), the bottom-line is that the product is worth pennies and people are happy to buy it. Why? They trust the celeb’s name on the bottle!

Definitely worth thinking about!
