Kicking off our Motherhood Series

Hello!

I’ve decided to kick off our Motherhood Interview Series in the run up to Mother’s Day. We’ve some wonderful guest blogs coming your way over the next few weeks, so stay tuned.

I thought I’d make a start and ask myself some of the questions other fabulous, strong women will be answering too.

Here goes and I hope you enjoy it!

1. What did motherhood first mean to you?

As a child, growing up, motherhood appeared clear. It was simply a journey for women after they married. A mother looked after and loved her children endlessly, while keeping a family home. They did everything! This was my take on motherhood 25 years ago.

Looking back and thinking about motherhood now, I truly believed then, that having children was a given for women, a decision not to have children wasn’t a choice, unless you couldn’t.

Such an old-fashioned view!

2. What does motherhood mean to you right now? Describe it in 3 words.

Love. Community. Rewarding (but hard work).

3. Do you have any daily affirmations. How do you be kind to yourself?

We have so many conversations with ourselves everyday in our heads. Talk to yourself how you talk to others, and how you would like to be spoken to. Be gentle.

4. Who gives you support and inspiration on a regular basis?

My biggest supporters have to be my family. We are always checking in with each other, even if we don’t see each other every day. I also love the community that I have built on Instagram and have made some lifelong, supportive friends on there.

5. What title would you give this chapter of your life?

My 40th year!

I’m told that your 40s are when you feel most comfortable in your own skin. Let’s do this!

6. What are your top 3 self-care tips?

  • Take time for yourself, away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life at least once a week, and leave your phone in another room!

  • Stretch each morning before you begin your day and do the same in the evening. A few minutes each time is all that’s needed.

  • Get out into nature whatever the weather and appreciate what’s out there. It’s free and great for the soul.

7. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?

Do it now if you can, otherwise it might be too late.

8. Where can people find you if they would like to know more?
