Meet Jo
Welcoming our first guest to the ‘You’re Amazing’ Motherhood Series. The lovely Jo.
Jo is smart, strong and an inspirational woman! She may have made the conscious decision a number of years ago not to have children, but we believe she’s still an integral part of Motherhood.
She has birthed the most beautiful project which she should be extremely proud of.
We caught up and had a chat. Here’s what she had to say.
1. What did motherhood first mean to you?
To me, the concept of Motherhood is the ‘birthing of a project’ my baby. It describes perfectly my position as Proprietor of Hairoscope my hair salon.
I have nurtured my business from a dream, onto my first very small, humble beginnings. I've upscaled and downsized, upskilled myself and educated others and over the last 23 years (24/7) have watched it gradually bloom into a highly successful organisation.
Through exceptionally hard work, love and dedication, I have been through fantastic times and horrendous times-it can be very rewarding and equally draining-mentally and physically! But I wouldn't swap it for the world. I could easily be talking about my child.
2. What does motherhood mean to you right now? Describe it in 3 words.
Work
Passion
Dedication
3. Do you have any daily affirmations. How do you be kind to yourself?
Don't be too hard on yourself. The world is tough enough!
“Worrying about things won't make them any better” - my Grandmother’s advice.
These days I make a conscious effort to take time for myself.
Going for a walk in nature and really reconnecting. I adore taking a really long, leisurely bath and completely switching off.
4. Who gives you support and inspiration on a regular basis?
My Grandmother was always my rock-she always knew exactly what to do and say on any given occasion. Her pride in me knew no bounds. Although she very sadly passed at the end of 2018, I still ‘speak’ to her often and I find great comfort and inspiration in that.
My partner is my best friend and gives me unconditional support and love. He has battled severe physical illness through the years but not once has he let it drag him down. His perseverance is a huge inspiration.
5. What title would you give this chapter of your life?
‘Comfortable in my own skin’.
6. What are your top 3 self-care tips?
Take a bath, drink the cava, eat the cake!
7. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
My grandfather always said - find something you love doing and get someone to pay you to do it!
8. Where can people find you if they would like to know more?
@hairoscopesalon on Facebook and Instagram
9. Last thing, what’s your favourite Artio product?
I can’t choose but if I had to it would be either the Exfoliate Soap or Luxury Bath Bombs!
Thanks Jo. It’s been great to have you.
