Meet Carli
Kicking off International Women’s Week with a BANG!
We had a lovely catch up with Carli last month and introduced her to our Motherhood Series.
Gosh was she excited to be part of it!
What a lady! Read on to find out lots more.
1. What did motherhood first mean to you?
Outside of it simply being something that had a bearing on me only because I had a mother and lived with her, it first came to mean or resonate with me from a perspective of it being something that was restrictive, felt pressured & expected and, which wasn’t something I was confident for me. It felt like a request or that was required of me rather than a choice. I felt very disconnected from my womb at that point.
2. What does motherhood mean to you right now? Describe it in 3 words.
Loneliness.
Expectation.
Ambivalence.
3. Do you have any daily affirmations. How do you be kind to yourself?
I tend to start my day with a workout, so I end that with a ten minute yoga session finishing in a meditation or affirmation. I follow Adrienne on YT so its ‘breath in love and breath out love.’ I try and remind myself to remain calm, that I cannot control everything, that my happiness is my responsibility and in my hands and, that I can choose how to continue my day. I try to choose a word to concentrate on and thread through everything I do an the way I communicate with others and myself, so curiosity, kindness etc.
4. Who gives you support and inspiration on a regular basis?
Wow, so many people. My mum, my sister, my husband, the community of other female creatives, artists and founders on Instagram or other groups and communities I am part of. So many people!
5. What title would you give this chapter of your life?
I think this chapter is the growth after all the learning of the past two years. It’s the reflection, the listening, the bravery to explore and remain open to options, the staying true to myself & my heart. It’s the love not money chapter.
6. What are your top 3 self-care tips?
Patience, practice functional movement, eat a healthy breakfast!
7. What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
‘The Squeaky wheel gets the oil’
8. Where can people find you if they would like to know more?
A mix of my commercial work and some personal practice is over at @carliadbyphoto on IG and one of my current projects which also focuses on motherhood actually and, the expectations often felt by women and the paradigms within that can be found over on @dear_womb on IG. I highly recommend you check it out if you Want to see some beautifully written letters from women, to themselves and their bodies. The generosity and honesty of them blows me away.
Carli a MASSIVE thank-you, it’s been a fabulous chat!
